Ice caps are especially vulnerable to climate change. According to the national snow and ice center at the Univerity of Colorado,"even the slightest change in temperature can cause greater warming over time," which can cause a chain reaction of warming and melting. Warmer air can cause the over layer to melt and create ponds from the melted water. Along with the snow-melt of the ice caps, water will melt and seep through the cracks, which can erode the ice quickly. Recently this effect has caused ice shelves to break off and fall. This happens most on polar ice caps. the National Resources Defense Council states that if this warming process keeps up then summers in the Arctic could become ice free. You may think that since Antartica is all ice that it snows a lot, but actually it dosent. It snows about 1/4 or .25 an inch a year.
